A former figure skating competitor, Stephanie Stiegler remains in the sport by coaching young skaters. Stephanie Stiegler is currently an elite skating coach at rinks in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. Starting with athletes as young as 3 years old, she teaches the fundamentals at the local, international, world, and Olympic levels.
Ms. Stiegler was already winning medals for skating in grade school. She learned from Frank Carroll (who also coached Dorothy Hamill and Peggy Fleming) for singles competition and Olympian Peter Oddegard for pairs. Ms. Stiegler became the first juvenile Ladies National Champion at 11 years old, junior pairs national champion at 13 years old, and later participated in the US Olympic Festival and the Goodwill Games.
She was an academic success in high school, earning a spot on the honor roll and taking community college-level courses in sports management. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Stiegler won several bronze medals against Olympic-level pairs skaters. She also had many television appearances and was featured three times on the cover of Skating magazine.
An injury hindered her chances of making the Olympic team, and by the time she had recovered Ms. Stiegler decided not to replace the partner who had left her during her recovery. In 2008, she became a coach in Los Angeles, where she also taught hockey. She has studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is active in many kinds of exercise.
